Welcome to 10 Things I Said WTF to, my end of month round-up newsletter of 10 things I’ve said WTF to over the past four weeks. Ranging from good to bad, to absolute nonsense °˖✧˚ʚ♡ɞ˚✧

  1. Lana v Ethel Beef

It’s finally happened, two of my favourite artists have turned against each other. Lana Del Rey and Ethel Cain have butted heads in a feud that only seems to be getting bigger by the day. This is probably because the majority of it has taken place online, with other celebrities and their dedicated (and often parasocial) fanbases all putting in their two cents. If you’re not chronically online then let me quickly break it down for you, and if you don’t care (understandable) then please feel free to skip to number 2!

Earlier this month Lana teased music from her upcoming country album, referencing it as “Track 13” in the caption. However, fans quickly took it upon themselves to name the song “All About Ethel”, because Lana opens with…

“Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post”

There are other digs and hints that solidify the song being about Ethel, but we don’t need to deep dive right now, I think calling her out by name is enough proof. Pop Base quickly addressed the potential dispute on their Instagram, and Lana commented…

“I didn’t know who Ethel was until a few years ago - when someone brought to my attention the disturbing and graphic side-by-side images she would often put up of me next to unflattering creatures and cartoon characters making constant comments about my weight, I was confused at what she was getting at. Then when I heard what she was saying behind closed doors from mutual friends and started inserting herself into my personal life I was definitely disturbed.”

The comment has since been deleted, but the internet moves too quick and it’s now everywhere (including here). Since then, Lana has blocked Ethel on Instagram, which Cain was quick to share.

Ethel’s sister also took to her stories to call out Lana - “I can’t wait to watch your hologram perform this ‘diss track’ while you hit your vape backstage, diva. What inspired you to suddenly make a country album??"

The whole situation is conflicting as Ethel has previously been very open about her love for Lana. So much so that she referred to her as “one of her favourite artists” and uploaded a cover of Born To Die on her Youtube channel, later saying in an interview that it was the first CD she ever bought. Yet within the same year, Ethel also said in an interview…

“But here’s the line between Lana and me. Lana is all façade; she is glamour, she is old Hollywood, she is the peak opulence of the American Dream. And for me, I’m like, that’s just not what America is to me. I think America is the bottom line — it’s the poor people, the people who have been the most affected by the government, by the system. People who are constantly spat on.”

I’m trying my best to give a very quick synopsis, but you can see how confusing this whole drama is. Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks have even weighed in, which actually isn’t even worth including here. So let’s quickly circle back to Lana’s comment - “when someone brought to my attention the disturbing and graphic side-by-side images she would often put up of me next to unflattering creatures and cartoon characters making constant comments about my weight, I was confused at what she was getting at.”

This is apparently what Lana is referencing, a tweet by Ethel sharing lyrics from Lana’s song “Peppers”, alongside a gif of Peter Griffin dancing. If I’d seen this out of context I never would’ve assumed it was a dig at Lana’s appearance or weight, because it’s not uncommon to post a cartoon character dancing alongside a song. I guess Lana may see it differently depending on what she’s heard from mutual friends…

Anyway, it feels like a while since we’ve had some real celeb drama so I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for future updates. I also will not be taking sides because 1. it’s not that serious and 2. I love their music equally!

  1. Neon Havaianas

I’ve spoken many times on here about my newfound love for flip flops, which has grown even stronger since they were glued to my feet 24/7 on my recent holiday. This love affair has prompted me to buy a second pair, ideally something that makes a bit more of a statement. Surprisingly for once I was sensible and decided to go for the classic black option first, to see if I even wore them at all…thinking if I did, then maybe I’d treat myself to another colour. But months before I even bought those I had these two colours saved on my Vinted! (Both BNWT - I do shop second hand 80% of the time but something about worn flip flops just sends a shiver down my spine)

Now I’ve finally adjusted to the toe post and proven myself as a dedicated flip-flop wearer, the hot pink and neon green are back on the table. Luckily, both still available in my size on Vinted for 50%+ off RRP. I’m leaning more toewards (a very appropriate typo that I couldn’t bring myself to change) the pink but I’m very interested to hear what you guys would go for!

  1. The Return Of An Icon

Ever since the vegan steak bake left Greggs, I rarely frequent the one place that has remained consistent throughout my whole life. As a northerner, I’ve been eating Greggs for as long as I can remember. It started with a classic sausage roll, then a mexican chicken oval bite, steak bake (never chicken, why is it so gross??) and the vegan sausage roll once I became veggie. Even throughout all those eras, the steak bake was always my favourite - sometimes I’d get two to cure a hangover, and then feel quite sick shortly after. It was hard to give up when I became veggie, so when they introduced the vegan version I obviously went first thing on release day. It was a short fling because Greggs love to discontinue seemingly popular products, but it’s finally back!! Since then I have realised I have quite a severe gluten intolerance, but I’m willing to endure stomach ache to be reunited with my favourite pasty ever.

  1. Bring Her Back

Horror is by far my favourite genre, but it doesn’t reaaaaally align with the cutesy WTF brand, so I don’t tend to include my watches on here. However, when something really blows me away I feel it’s my duty to inform you all! The trailer for Bring Her Back looked so good that we actually made the effort to go see it at the cinema - which we really should do more - also A24 very rarely disappoints so I knew it wouldn’t be a wasted journey.
