I had never heard of Substack until the sudden closure of Man Repeller back in 2020, which led some of the previous employee’s to continue their informative, hilarious and inspiring writing over on this platform. I’ve always wanted to be a writer of some description since I was in primary school, I loved reading so much and English was honestly the only subject I actually did well in. Therefore, I was totally inspired by the way people were using Substack to get their writing out there with the freedom of writing about whatever they loved, and releasing it on a structure that worked for them.
I had no idea how much happiness and fulfilment I would get out of writing this newsletter for the past year. I am so unbelievably grateful for every single subscriber who takes time out of their week to read the pieces I write. It is the best creative outlet I could’ve asked for, and it makes me feel inspired every time I sit down to work on it.
Thanks to you guys and your endless support, it’s made me have confidence in myself that this could become my job one day. Which is why I want to start taking steps towards that! Despite my overwhelming imposter syndrome, I have made the decision to re-structure WTF and turn on paid subscriptions.
WTF will now become a weekly newsletter, arriving in your inboxes every Monday at 6pm, starting from the 5th of February. The first three newsletters of each month will be a mixture of topics - ranging from fashion and lifestyle to gift guides and basically anything and everything thats on my mind. The last Monday of the month will be the usual edition of ‘10 Things I Said WTF to in (insert month')’.
Paid subscriptions will be £3.50 per month, which means you will receive all 4 editions of WTF per month. Free subscriptions will still be available, but only provide access to ‘10 Things’ on the last Monday of each month.
Turning on paid subscriptions was something I’d always kept in the back of my mind, but was waiting for the right time to take the plunge. Originally I thought after six months I’d be ready, but I definitely didn’t feel like there was a solid enough foundation. After writing and curating WTF for the past 12 months, it really feels like I have a special project with it’s own aesthetic and tone of voice. I understand we are in difficult times, so obviously I am treading with caution when asking people to pay for this publication. Which is why I have decided to make the monthly subscription fee £3.50, which is the lowest price that Substack will let you set it at. In full transparency - WTF takes me a lot of time to write and create, so if you enjoy reading it then I’d love your support for this independent publication.
Before making this decision, I spent a lot of time looking into my personal favourite Substack newsletters, seeing how much they charge, and what type of content I’d be happy to pay for. I quickly realised that a lot of my favourite writer’s turned on paid subscriptions basically straight away, which inspired me to try and believe in myself and my own writing, a little more.
(Some publications I highly recommend - Shop Rat by Emillia Petrarca, Earl Earl by Laurel Pantin, Back Row by Amy Odell, Street Night Live, The Molehill by Viv)
By turning on paid subscriptions, I hope to turn WTF into a part time job for me, which means I can dedicate more time into researching, curating and putting out content. I’m super excited to start publishing weekly, meaning newsletters can be more tailored to whats happening that week. We can chat about new trends, viral pop culture moments and so much more. I’d also love to incorporate my own personal style into some newsletters, giving an insight into what I wear and love from my own wardrobe. So many ideas! I also already have an insanely long list of future newsletters on my notes app that I keep adding to when inspiration strikes - so there is lots to come!
Just as a teaser, in February I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the new viral ‘Eclectic Grandpa’ trend, the 75 Hard Style challenge & where to buy the comfiest, most affordable undies.
Thank you for reading, it means a lot, and either subscription you choose to pursue I want to say thank you so much for all the support this past year. If you wish to move over to a paid subscription then please click the button below! (Praying this works - totally new to this!)
BTW - January’s ‘10 Things’ will still be going ahead as usual before WTF switches over to weekly!
so excited about the updates!! 💕
