Everything I Wore Last Week In Malta

Happy Monday! Yesterday I returned home after spending a wonderful and very hot week in Gozo, one of many small islands that make up the Maltese archipelago. To get there you can either take a fast ferry from Valletta (aka hell, more on that in next weeks WTF) or a very calm ferry from Ċirkewwa. Travelling to the airport, flying, then taking a taxi or bus and finally a ferry sounds intense, but I couldn’t believe how easy the journey was and it’s truly worth every minute to stay in Gozo. The island is quiet and unbelievably beautiful, full of locals and much less hectic than staying in Malta.

My grandad is Maltese so I visited a lot in my childhood, but I hadn’t been back in over ten years or without my family - so this was a totally different experience. Malta is relatively cheap and Gozo is even more affordable, which meant that our whole group managed to stay in a beautiful farmhouse which massively exceeded our expectations. The listing pictures really didn’t do it justice and there was enough space for all seven of us to comfortably relax for the whole week, which went by way too fast.

I haven’t been on a super hot/beach holiday in six years because I’m always swayed by city breaks, which meant that I wasn’t 100% sure what to pack. Changing frequently is easily done on beach holidays because everything gets sweaty and sandy so quickly, so I knew that I’d need options. Options + hand luggage aren’t words often used in the same sentence, but luckily we flew BA and their allowance is pretty generous. After reluctantly removing one thing from every packing cube, I could finally shut my suitcase without it looking like an inflated balloon and I was ready to go.

I felt pretty pleased with my choices, so of course wanted to share them on here! I’ll also be trying to link everything or find alternative vintage/second-hand options, so let’s start with the two most hard-working pieces of the trip…

This vintage nightie and my black Havaianas rarely left my body the whole week! I adore shoes and tend to pack more pairs than clothes whenever I go away, but I could’ve happily worn these 24/7. I bought them a month or so ago and wore them a couple of times in the UK, and after being a flip-flop hater my whole life, the toe post definitely took some getting used to. Now I’d consider them some of my comfiest shoes, I walked 13k steps around Valletta in 33 degree heat and had zero issues!

Havaianas now offer a thinner strap style and a square toe option, but there’s something I really love about this classic shape. I’m on the hunt for a hot pink or chocolate brown pair to add to my collection before the summer ends!

My nightie was a $15 find at the rose bowl flea market last October, and I hadn’t worn it up until this trip. It felt too special to sleep in, but too see through to wear out in the day. Turns out it’s the perfect dress for a beach holiday, I popped it over my pyjamas or bikini most mornings and wore it down to breakfast or to the supermarket, and also as a cover-up by the pool. Sadly I can’t track down the exact one, but here’s two really great options from House of Bruar.

Pyjamas were a tricky one because sleeping in the heat is no joke, so I packed light. Then I realised there was air-con in my room and kept waking up at 4am shivering! I honestly wish I’d taken something warmer. Here’s what I did pack…

This camo vest was part of a silly pyjama set I bought in an army surplus store, it has matching pants with “booty camp” written across them, which I decided wasn’t quite the holiday vibe. So instead I took these Sezané mens boxers which have the cute option of getting personalised embroidery on the hem. Despite my late night chills, these two were the perfect comfy duo.

Even though I live in Brighton, it rarely gets hot enough for me to wear a bikini, so I don’t have a huge variety of swimwear. I added a few new ones to my collection this summer, and these two polka dot options were the only ones I didn’t find secondhand! The white top is from Monki, and I mostly wore it as a bra in the evenings because an actual bra just felt way too restrictive in the heat - plus I think the halter neck of a bikini always looks so cute under a top or dress. Damson Madder very kindly gifted me the yellow set which I was suuuuuuper excited about as I’ve had my eye on it for a while and it did not disappoint!
