If you haven’t already guessed by the title of this newsletter (or seen my many many Instagram posts) I’m engaged! I can’t believe it’s already been two and a half weeks since the proposal, waking up and putting my ring on has to be one of the best feelings.
It would be wrong for me to starve you of the juicy goss, so lets start this newsletter off with that. Me and my boyfriend (now fiancé, although that word still sounds too grown up every time I say it) have discussed getting engaged basically since we first started dating. Because I’m a self confessed control freak and absolutely hate surprises, we decided to do the whole process as a team which meant picking the ring together. I can be quite picky about jewellery and don’t tend to switch up my daily chunky gold hoops and name necklace, even for special occasions, so I knew the ring needed to be a similar sort of look for it to align with my personal style. We shopped around and tried on a few different styles of ring while Fisher gently gave me reality checks every now and then, which mostly meant reminding me I’m very prone to sensory overload. This was super helpful because I knew straight away that a high set stone wouldn’t work for me, he also helped steer me away from ring styles that were too trendy and not very timeless - which I’m so grateful for! I can easily convince myself I’ll love something forever just because I love it in that moment, but then will find myself going off it quite quickly.
We ended up working with one of the only jewellery designers who’s work I actively follow - Emma Walton. Her designs are super unique and I especially love how chunky and colourful they are. The final decision was to go for one of her signature styles which is a gold twiglet ring, and we chose emeralds and rubies for the stones that would be scattered throughout. Here’s a little TikTok Emma posted that shows the ring in all it’s glory!
Now I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks, it was definitely the perfect choice, and feels so personal knowing it’s our birthstones combined. Even though I did previously state I’m terrible with surprises, Fisher did surprise me by booking us a trip to Paris for the actual proposal which I was unbelievably grateful for. We stayed at Hotel Les Deux Gares and had the best few days in our own little bubble before we even told anyone it had happened. So that’s all the deets, but now it’s time to move onto the main event, planning a wedding…
I might kick myself for saying this in ‘print’ (so please don’t hold me to it) but I’d love to get married in two years time, maybe three years max. I really hate having something big looming in the distance because the waiting just makes me anxious, so I should probably get cracking! Growing up I never dreamt of having a big or traditional wedding, in fact the thought of it still makes me freak out. Just as much as Carrie did in that one episode of SATC where her and Miranda try on the bad wedding dresses for fun, and she claims she’s missing the bride gene.
I always wondered if because I don’t want the church and the bridesmaids and most of the other stuff, am I missing the bride gene? But recent years would prove not, thankfully weddings have gotten to a point where they can be absolutely anything you want! Which puts my prone to overthinking brain at ease. What I want (I think) is to head to the town hall with our families and then hire a cute pub or anywhere that looks nice to have a big party with lots of spicy margarita’s, cute decorations and some sort of greasy food that I haven’t decided on yet. Oh and I wouldn’t say no to a Molly Goddard dress, which might be a bad idea considering whatever I wear willl inevitably end up with something spilt down it. On that note, lets talk outfits.
The Dress?
Because I knew our engagement was on the horizon, I’ve had a while to start curating my Pinterest boards for each different part of the wedding. I’ve popped all my pins together so you can see the vibe I’ve been gravitating towards for my outfit…
