By the end of January the gloominess of the month truly took a toll on me - everyone’s skint, the weather sucks and summer feels 1000 years away. All I wanted was to spend every second on the sofa playing Animal Crossing while eating dark chocolate digestives and only wearing pyjamas. It sounds very dramatic but it’s hard to stay positive when the month feels never ending!! As my energy depleted so did my passion for getting dressed, and I found myself waking up and just grabbing the nearest clothes I could find, shoving my hair up and not bothering with make-up. I usually dress pretty comfy for work anyway and don’t always wear make-up, but after days and days of making zero effort I found myself feeling pretty crappy.
So I decided to set myself a challenge last week, here are the rules…
Put some effort into getting dressed every day
Don’t repeat pieces out of laziness (I’m so guilty of hanging a pair of trousers over my desk chair at the end of the day and then just wearing them over and over for the rest of the week)
Try and wear a little make-up each day, unless I feel genuinely happier without it.
Don’t “save” pieces because they’re too cute for work, wear them if it’ll make you feel good!
Context: my job doesn’t require me to dress a certain way so I just wear whatever I usually would, but it would probably make more sense for me to assign myself a uniform as I can sometimes end up kinda grubby by EOD.
Documenting this challenge was the only way I could properly hold myself accountable so please enjoy! Also, my apologies for my ugly light not being covered by a lampshade, I only moved three weeks ago and it’s still a WIP.
Day 1
Somehow the first morning after the weekend is always a little chaotic, I never wake up feeling as refreshed as I’d hope and I find myself running around like crazy trying to get everything together. So I decided to go for one of my trusty outfit recipes - white under t-shirt, cosy knit and baggy jeans. However, I wanted to make it a little more fun by wearing these new Sezané boat shoe/loafers for the first time. Not pictured: red socks.
Day 2

Clearly by day 2 I was feeling a little more alive and slowly getting into the groove of the week, so I wanted to style an outfit that I’d never usually wear to work. There is absolutely no part of my job that requires me dressing up like this, but the outfit idea popped into my head just before I fell asleep and I thought why not? It felt good to finally style my DIY rosette again! I can’t wait to pin it onto a graphic tee in the summer.
